Yasmany Tomas out of MLB
Yasmany Tomás left Cuba. In his travel backpack, he carried the hopes that all players of the island have, to become the star of the biggest and best professional ball circuit: Baseball Major League. However, after several years in that professional sport entity, his dream has ended and now he will have to settle with being sent to the minors to a branch of his current team of The Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cuban outfielder was excluded from the roster of 40 players of the Arizona team and now at 27, he will go to Reno where he will play in triple-A.
Yasmany Tomás, who played in Cuba for Industriales, signed a contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014 for six years and an amount of $ 68.5 million. However, the Cuban prospect that just played 47 games last season due to constant injuries was placed on the list of players available on March 31 and as expected, no club claimed him.
Without saying anything Tomás packed his bags to the Minors. Among the options offered by the club was to become a free agent; however, the young Cuban baseball player would stop charging the rest of his contract which amounts to 46 million dollars, a figure that, of course, nobody wants to lose. A time in the Minors can even imply his return to the Mayors, if lessons allow it.
Among the reasons why Yasmany Tomás was not chosen are the financial ones, no club risked selecting him more if he has been a lessoned baseball player. According to the MLB website, selecting the Cuban outfielder would mean to assume the rest of the payment of his contract, financial issues that nobody wanted to carry on their shoulders because the Cuban is still owed 10 million dollars. Yet, as it does not appear as a free agent, he still guarantees within the franchise a salary of US $ 15.5 million and US $ 17 million in the 2019 and 2020 campaigns respectively.
Last season he only completed 47 games in which he averaged for 241, with eight home runs and 32 RBI. In spite of that, 2016 was his best year batting for 272, 31 home runs and 83 RBI. Since signing with the D-backs as a free agent left from Cuba before the 2015 season, Tomás had performed an offensive line of .268 / .307 / .462.
In addition to the lessons, Yasmany Tomás is skillfulness on defense, which is why the club sent him to Reno to keep improving, along with right-hander Braden Shipley. Meanwhile, with his departure, other players of the Diamond Backs were promoted like right-handed pitcher Zack Godley and outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker.
Tomás has begun his professional career in Cuba playing for Industriales, the team of the capital of the island and the most important team in the history of Cuban Baseball and Cuban National Series League.
In 2014, Tomás deserted from Cuba in an effort to play in US Major Baseball League. One of the most important achievements of Tomas´s career as baseball player was being part of Cuban national team who participated in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
